You are looking at a set of 2 curtain rods.  They are made of metal.  The first pictures show that the area to hold the curtain can shorted to about 27".  The end piece goes out another 3 inches.  The end piece screws to the rod easily.  It can extend to about 48 to 50 inches where the curtain lays.  28" to 48" inches keeps the rod more stable.  It was used in the past but has only minor wear.  I have another one if you are interested.
