Martin D-28 Authentic 1937 Guatemalan Aged S/N 2871726
[D-28 Authentic 1937 Guatemalan Aged]
The Martin D-28 Authentic 1937 Guatemalan Aged is a symbol of the Authentic series, thoroughly reproducing the design philosophy and manufacturing method of the original 1937 D-28, which is said to be the "best sounding instrument in history."
The top material is Adirondack spruce treated with VTS (Vintage Tone System). It achieves a vintage-like response and a deep sound.
One of the reasons why the top material of vintage guitars is said to "sound better" is due to the changes inside the wood over time.
When tonewoods such as spruce are new, water and resin components remain in their cell walls, and while they have high elasticity, there is also a relatively large loss of vibrational energy.
However, as time passes over several decades, the moisture inside gradually disappears, and components such as hemicellulose slowly decompose and crystallize. This reduces internal loss and improves the ability to follow vibrations, resulting in a state where the sound has grown.
VTS (Vintage Tone System) processing artificially reproduces this aging effect. By promoting changes in cell structure that would normally take many years in a controlled environment, we have achieved a dry start-up and excellent response even when new.
Even in its sound, the Authentic series has a finish that makes you feel the depth and depth that is reminiscent of the golden age.
Adopting hand-shaped, forward-shifted and scalloped Adirondack bracing, and assembling it with the same glue adhesive used at the time, it achieves a dynamic and responsive sound that seems to push out air all at once.
The sides and back are made of Guatemalan rosewood, which has a strong heathered grain reminiscent of Jacaranda and rich overtones. It supports a sound that is both profound and gorgeous.
This model has been given an "Aged" finish to recreate the look of having been played with for many years. We pursue a vintage appearance, down to the texture of the paint and the expression of the details, and visually you will feel that this is a special piece from the moment you pick it up. It's not just a relic, it's also appealing in that it has a natural sound and feel. Furthermore, it cannot be overlooked that vibration transmission efficiency has been increased by optimizing the texture and finish of the paint film, contributing to a more open and relaxed sound.
Although the low range has a rich volume, the outline does not collapse and maintains a firm presence. The high range is bright yet has a core, and the sound is impressive and pleasant to the ear. In combination with Adirondack spruce, it responds very quickly to picking nuances, allowing you to freely express everything from delicate touches to powerful strokes. From chord work to lead play, this is a piece that allows you to fully experience the vast dynamic range.
The neck uses Authentic 1937 shape. The thick, vintage-like grip combines with the tension unique to long scales to create a powerful tone with a strong core.
Details such as the ebony fingerboard and bridge, long saddle, and open-back tuner faithfully follow the specifications of the time. The precision of reproduction shines down to the smallest detail.
This is a product that brings back ``1937'' to modern times in terms of sound, looks, and manufacturing method. The more you play it, the more you play it, the more the sound opens up, and the more you play it, the more you get closer to the nuances of 1937, which can be said to be the origin of the traditional D-28 sound.
The sap that appears on the sides and back is very beautiful and highlights its individuality. The expression that stands out in the deep color unique to Guatemalan rosewood is one of its great appeals in terms of looks.
Regarding the condition, the binding at the end piece has shrunk and there is a step.
There is just not enough space to pour the adhesive.
