A handsome antique EPNS silver plated vesta case, dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian era, featuring attractive foliate scroll engraving and a personalised 'WW' monogrammed cartouche. Compact yet practical, this elegant antique match safe would originally have been carried in a gentleman's waistcoat pocket, safely protecting wax matches for lighting cigars, pipes and cigarettes.

The front displays a beautifully engraved scrollwork framing the engraved initials, while the original hinged lid opens smoothly via the thumb lip. A suspension loop remains fitted to the side, allowing the case to be attached to a watch chain, Albert chain or fob if desired. The original match striker is still present to the underside, completing this classic piece of Victorian tobacciana.

Stamped EPNS to the inside lip, the case is silver plated and has developed an attractive aged patina through over a century of careful use. The reverse displays honest signs of wear with areas of plate loss and verdigris, adding to its authentic antique character. A charming collector's piece that would make an excellent addition to any collection of antique vesta cases, match safes, gentleman's accessories, smoking antiques or tobacciana.
