SUPER SUMMER SALE!

VERY CLEAN ORIGINAL TICKET STUB FROM THE AWA WRESTLING SHOW AT CHICAGO'S INTERNATIONAL AMPHITHEATER ON JULY 27, 1968.

Below is a summary of what took place that night!

Promoter Bob Luce has installed 1,000 extra seats for Saturday’s International Amphitheatre card in anticipation of an all-time indoor record turnout for Chicago that may exceed 12,300.

The arena normally seats 11,000 for wrestling. The Amphitheatre record is 12,011 set Dec. 9, 1960- when standing room was permitted.

The headline event is what Luce calls a “natural” attraction pitting world champion Verne Gagne against 27-year-old Blackjack Lanza, a virtual unknown preliminary wrestler until a year ago. Lanza is undefeated in 12 straight Chicago bouts beginning Aug. 11, 1967.

Lanza has the statistical edge. He outweighs Gagne by 44 pounds, 276 to 232, and is taller by seven inches.

In Chicago bouts this year Lanza has beaten Wilbur Snyder, The Crusher, Igor Vodik, Big Luke and Pat O’Connor in that order. It will be the first time Gagne has ever wrestled Lanza.

No idea which newspaper published the above article.
