Amazing estate sale find!

Striking antique photographic portrait of an unidentified woman posed in an elaborate studio setting. She wears a dramatic dark floral gown with a high collar and long train, standing beside a tasseled table with decorative furnishings in the background.

The fitted high-neck bodice, floral fabric, and long late-Victorian silhouette are consistent with women’s fashions from approximately the 1880s–1890s, although the exact date and photographic process have not been confirmed. Museum examples from roughly 1885–1897 show closely related high collars, fitted bodices, floral fabrics, and full-length skirts.

Presented in a large period-style wood frame with a graduated gold-to-brown finish and ornate metallic inner trim.

Antique condition with considerable age-related wear. The glass has a long diagonal crack across the upper portion - it is smooth to the touch, the crack must be deeper into the glass. The decorative inner trim has several missing or damaged sections, particularly along the lower edge and left side. The wood frame has scratches, finish loss, scuffs, and edge wear. The reverse has old wood backing boards, exposed framing points, and a later green hanging cord. The photograph shows fading, spotting, and general age-related surface wear.
