A SOUVENIR OF MORE GRACIOUS TRAVEL TIMES

This Blue Glass round dish with straight was from an adventure on the SS France made by my great grandparents at least 47 years ago.

ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET…

“The legendary ocean liner SS France was decommissioned in 1974 due to rising fuel costs and the rise of jet travel. She was sold in 1979 to Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), extensively refitted, and renamed SS Norway. Following a boiler explosion in 2003, she was retired and ultimately dismantled for scrap in Alang, India, between 2005 and 2008.”

This gorgeous ship was a tribute to time when traveling by water was the only way to go assure you went comfortably. She was known ship was known for its exquisite service, gourmet food and extravagant VERSAILLES like opulent decor.

Appropriate to the age of the pin tray, the gold imprinting on the ship image is worn and the top edge has some roughness— which are not chips, but are almost an unfinished feel in different spots. I’ve only owned one so I’m guessing it was consistent with how they were made but you have to determine if that’s OK for you.

The name “france” is highly readable.
