Up for auction is this Toledo, Ohio, Charter #91, $10.00 1929 Type-1 Small Size National, Fr. #1801-1, with treasury signatures of Edward E. Jones as Register of the Treasury and Walter O. Woods as Treasurer of The United States.  The cashier of this bank is William E. Watson and the President of the bank is H.S. Reynolds.     

This bank chartered on June 10, 1863 as “The First National Bank of Toledo, Ohio”.  This Bank went into Receivership on April 3, 1934.  The bank issued 187,900 small size Nationals, from 1929 thru April 3, 1934 when the bank failed.  Toledo had a total of 9 Currency issuing National Banks.  Seven of those banks failed before 1929!  Only two of the 9 banks survived long enough to issue Series 1929 small size National Banknote Currency.  This bank was the more common of those two banks that did survive long enough to issue small size National Banknotes.

The note has lovely margins all around on both sides.  The note is bright and crisp with sharp corners and lovely push through embossing on the Serial Numbers, Bank Title and Treasury Seal.  I do see a slight teller pinch in the upper right corner of the note from counting.  I would grade this note as Choice Uncirculated to Gem Uncirculated. Please look at the scans carefully and judge the grade and quality of this note for yourself before bidding.  The Kelly Census shows 616 small size notes reported on this bank. There are 16 - $5.00 Type-1’s, 547 - $10.00 Type-1’s, 25 - $20.00 Type-1’s, 7 - $5.00 Type - 2’s, 12- $10.00 Type-2’s. and 9 - $20.00 Type-2’s.  This note is already counted in the census numbers above. 

This note would make a fine addition to any Ohio State banknote collection.  The bank was located in Lucas County, so it should appeal to those collecting that County and its surrounding areas.  It should also appeal to those collecting the first 100 Bank Charters and is a great inexpensive Uncirculated Type Note.  Don’t let this note get away!
