Kokusai Pictures Archive Collection
Inspired by the bold illustrated movie posters of post-war Japanese cinema, the Kokusai Pictures Archive Collection presents an imagined archive of forgotten films that never existed. Each design is created as though it were an authentic theatrical poster discovered decades later—celebrating the visual language of vintage Japanese exploitation cinema, dramatic storytelling and classic motorcycle culture.
Black Tide imagines a lost 1963 road drama following a close-knit motorcycle club on Japan's rugged Pacific coast. As friendships are tested and loyalties begin to fracture, one final ride forces the gang to choose between the road they've always known and the future waiting beyond it. Set against windswept cliffs, lonely cafés and coastal highways, the film exists only in imagination—but its world feels unmistakably real.
The hand-painted artwork draws inspiration from the striking layouts and expressive illustration styles of mid-century Japanese movie posters, combining bold typography, cinematic composition and weathered print textures to recreate the feeling of a genuine rediscovered classic.
