The Lanzón Monolith of the Chavín culture represents the principal and oldest deity of this ceremonial center, commonly called the "Smiling God" or the Supreme God of Chavín. It is a monolithic granite sculpture carved in high and low relief. It measures approximately 4.5 meters in height and is shaped like a large spearhead or a traditional foot plow (chaquitaclla). It is set vertically at the intersection of the temple's underground galleries, connecting the floor to the ceiling. It depicts a stylized anthropomorphic figure standing upright, with short limbs, clawed hands, large crossed feline fangs, and eyes looking upwards. Its hair and eyebrows are represented as intertwined serpents, and its attire includes belts with mythical and feline faces. A ritual channel adorns the top of its head.
