Antique Victorian “The Nautch Girl” Watch Fob Cigar Cutter c.1891 – Universal Supply Co., London – Made in Germany
An exceptionally scarce and highly collectible Victorian novelty watch fob cigar cutter, known as “The Nautch Girl”, produced for The Universal Supply Co., London and manufactured in Germany around 1891.
This charming late 19th-century gentleman’s accessory depicts an elegant Nautch dancer, inspired by the Indian dancers who fascinated Victorian Britain during the height of the British Empire. Combining decorative art with practical function, these miniature cigar cutters were designed to hang from a gentleman’s watch chain and are now regarded as desirable examples of Victorian tobacciana.
The original rotating cutting wheel is clearly marked “GERMANY”, confirming its period manufacture for the British market. Authentic examples have become increasingly difficult to find and are sought after by collectors of antique cigar cutters, watch fobs, and unusual Victorian mechanical novelties.
