 If you are looking for a rare Electro Voice microphone to add to the collection or simply to display then look no further. This model was one of E.V's earlier dynamic model mics when they became a company in the late 1930's. It comes with the very early E.V 423A model desk stand shown in which to display. 

 It should be noted that this mic has been tested and while 100% complete the dynamic element no longer works. This should be used for display or repair purposes only.

 This is the E.V model 640C / 640 dynamic microphone with heavy industrial / deco styling was introduced in 1945 and made in South Bend, Indiana. This model was made for just a few years before manufacturing on it stopped making this a harder to find model and a very unique early E.V microphone. The 640 was sold in two versions. This was technically the 640G model as it came with the gunmetal painted finish. The 640C came with a chromed finish. This 640 was basically a 640C.

 The 1st gen 640 was basically the 620 model which incorporated the same head as the 640 but the lower joint mechanism was completely different. E.V eventually did away with the 620 in the early 1940's with the 2nd gen redesign. The later 640 model had a completely new lower yoke / joint mechanism.

 The 620 & 640 models resembled the popular searchlights of that time. In W.W II all of the major powers were using very powerful search lights to illuminate the skies against enemy aircraft and E.V ran with the look when they sold the 620 & 640 model mic as it was a very popular style. 

 Pic # 2 is from an old E.V catalog showing the mics characteristics. The 640 is a larger, heavier mic that really stands out just about anywhere it's displayed or used.

 Described by E.V as a "rugged, dependable, professional microphone reproducing voice and music with amazing accuracy". It might have back in the day but this microphones element no longer works so it's being sold as display model only but comes with the older Electro Voice desk stand shown. There's plenty of room inside for an upgrade if desired and would make a great lamp project as well. 

 This unique design resembles in some ways the Turner 999 that was made in the 1930's / early 40's with a bit more flair. You'll notice the lower yoke which allows the mic a wide degree of tilt up and down. The original thumb screws tighten nicely and work just as they should. You'll notice that some of these 640's are missing the side thumb screws but not this one. They look great as well. There are no missing parts on this mic and it's solid with nothing loose inside or out. The metal screen has no holes. The front grill comes off with two small screws.

 The E.V label looks great with lite paint wear. As you can see there is just lite wear on the satin chrome finish as well and there is no heavy corrosion on the actual spokes of the yoke.   Most of these examples do show much heavier corrosion.

 I try to provide the most detailed, up close photos available so you know exactly what you are getting and no buyers remorse so common with these older mics. This mic I would rate this an easy 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department. A fun and rare piece to display anywhere in your home, office or studio.

 This mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have though a stand is provided.            

 The desk is an early 1950's era Electro Voice 423A model microphone stand. This is an all aluminum stand with a satin chrome finish and satin chrome stem / riser. This model was widely produced by E.V during the 1950's but was redesigned when the 1960's came around so you don't see too many of these early 423A examples anymore. The 423A really compliments the 640 and makes for a good platform. 

 This particular stand has very lite wear as you can see. Mostly just a few tiny scratches located on the riser but no dents, pitting or fractures anywhere on the stand. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide. All 3 original rubber pads are included and will keep the stand from scratching any surface it sits on. Mic with stand is appx 8 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide.

 This will make an excellent conversation piece anywhere it sits in the home, office or studio.
