Description: 

Up for sale are a charming matched pair of antique German figural candlesticks. These pieces feature a classic Victorian pastoral theme, depicting a young boy with a harvest basket and a young girl in a sun hat, both standing against organic, Art Nouveau-inspired tree-trunk sconces.

The craftsmanship is typical of the high-quality Thuringian factories (such as Conta & Boehme or Sitzendorf). Each piece is hand-painted with delicate floral details on the "mossy" bases and finished with a high-gloss glaze.

Markings: The undersides are clearly marked with the incised Mold Number 642 and a handwritten decorator's mark (Blue S-Scroll/W) and the number 88. These marks are consistent with late 19th-century German porcelain production.
