Although the planes of Pan American Airways had made scheduled stops at Wake Island since 1935, it was not until over fifteen years later that a post office was established, making it an official port of call. Covers exist from all points, but westbound covers were removed from the plane at Guam and so backstamped.

No cachet was provided for the inaugural mail from Guam.

This cover was carried on the May 1, 1951 inaugural Foreign Air Mail Route 14 flight from Guam to Wake Island (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Foreign Air Mail (FAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as F14-79.

The Guam Postmaster autographed the cover.
