Nick Villarreal: Conjunto accordionist and hitmaker Nick Villarreal ~ Villarreal, also known as "Nicky Snick," was a member of the musically inclined family, the Zimmerles. His grandfather, James Zimmerle, taught him how to play the accordion when he was 5, according to Tejano Nation. The 66-year-old had battled diabetes and underwent dialysis in recent years, according to San Antonio Express-News archives.
His Facebook profile is now festooned with memories from fans and friends who are celebrating his life with photos and videos of his performances.
A member of the Zimmerle family of San Antonio, Nick specialized in composing songs about everything from Kool-Aid to Viagra to Tiger Woods and former San Antonio mayor Henry Cisneros. His unmistakable, easy-going goofy cumbias were his trademark, along with his catch phrase, “Ah Nyi Nyi!”
