For sale from the estate of Ralph Jaeckel — a rare and historically significant set of 3 volumes of Sicil-i Osmani (also known as Tezkere-yi Mesahiri Osmaniye), the monumental Ottoman biographical encyclopedia written by Mehmed Süreyya. Published in Istanbul by Matbaayı Amire, AH 1308–1311 (1890–1893), printed in Ottoman Turkish (Arabic script).

This is an original first edition, stamped by the University of Missouri Library (deaccessioned). Library catalog cards are present inside. Handwritten annotations in English throughout, dated Istanbul, January 1936, referencing comparative scholarship. Volumes are numbered and correspond to the 2nd, 3rd, and one additional volume of the original 4-volume set.

Condition: Covers show significant wear — boards are intact with embossed burgundy cloth, but spines are deteriorated and binding is fragile. Pages are tanned/aged with some spotting, consistent with age. Text is readable. Sold strictly as-is, no returns.
