Beautiful sterling silver spoon from Los Angeles California dating back to years around 1900 featuring at the top of handle the territorial seal with seated Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, overlooks the Sacramento River scene with ships and boats, Sierra Nevada Mountains in the background and grizzly bear in front. Above it the word EUREKA (Greek for "I have found it") refers to the discovery of gold (also the state motto), which brought the waves of outsiders to the sleepy shores of San Francisco. Below on the handle it has miners working with pick and branch with grapes and writing CALIFORNIA down the wavy handle. In the bowl it has colorful enamel image of orange tree, the writing is LOS ANGELES. Condition of the spoon is excellent, measures 5-5/8 inch long (142 mm), weighs 27.6 grams.
