STUNNING Herbert Halate ZUNI Ram Bighorn Sheep Fetish, Hand Carved from Black Jet with Turquoise and Mother of Pearl Bale and Turquoise Inlay Eyes, circa 1970s to 1980s.

Herbert Halate is renowned Zuni carver known for his highly polished abstract style with a strong preference for carving black jet, which we see beautifully demonstrated in this Ram fetish animal. Herb Halate is the son of the beloved carver known as Old Man Halate, the late Leanard Halate. He has been carving since the 1970s and this work would date back to the 70s or 80s. His work is widely collected and is featured on page 21 and 46 of "Spirit in the Stone," by Mark Bahti, 1999, as well as p. 11 of "A Guide to Zuni Fetishes and Carvings, and in Dr Harold Finkelstein's book, Zuni Fetish Carvings, 1994. Plate #50 on page 19 is a black jet bear with turquoise medicine bale, much like the black jet Ram fetish offered here. 

Measurement: Approximately 3 inches long x 2 inches tall. Please refer to photos for exact measurements.

Condition: Very Good Condition. Very Smooth with nice polish. Appears to have a small scuff or flaw near the one leg.
