Antique Japanese Koimari Imari Porcelain Plate Sara This is an antique side plate (small plate) made in Japan. Plum blossoms and a nightingale (Uguisu) are drawn on the plate, and they are traced in gold. This design is called Imari-Ume. Some distortion is seen in the plate. Because it used firewood instead of gas or electricity, as is common today, the temperature was unstable, and it warped easily. There are small spots and dust marks (goma) on the plate. This is where the ash fell after firing in the kiln. There is a white porcelain mark (Me-Ato) on the bottom.
