- Even today historians remain preoccupied with the technology and development history of the German Luftwaffe. This book is dedicated to the short lived history of the Brunnthal Airfield and its role during the war. The author not only covers the development of this airfield by the Luftwaffe but also the planning of further alternate airfields around Brunnthal. The contents gives a vivid and accurate picture of the daily operations of the Airfield and is illustrated with original photographs. The author integrates contemporary witness reports from German military personnel, civilians and the mission reports of American pilots which give greater insight into the destruction and hopelessness which defined the end of the war in southern Germany. The author evaluated extensive archive materials, especially high-quality US Air Force aerial photographs to create a detailed evaluation of the aircraft, some hastily disabled and partially destroyed, which were located at the airfield at the end of the war.

- Consequently many misinterpretations regarding the fate of individual aircraft have been eliminated and new insight won. Brunnthal Airfield was home to a variety of different aircraft types including a number of the revolutionary jet fighters from Messerschmitt - Me 262A. In total fifty nine aircraft have been identified and cataloged by the author. In addition to the aircraft codes, salvaged parts and pieces of wreckage have revealed information regarding variants and serial numbers; based on this data remarkable details regarding the destinies of individual aircraft have been reconstructed. This work is illustrated with many previously unpublished photographs and detailed colour profiles of the aircraft discovered at Brunnthal and the Munich - Salzburg autobahn.
