This nice N scale locomotive by Kato is 701 a JNR DD13 diesel locomotive in orange and grey livery, it has the running number DD13 115.

The JNR DD13 diesel locomotive is a diesel locomotive manufactured by the Japanese National Railways (JNR) for shunting purposes. This locomotive was developed primarily for use in shunting operations within railway yards . Before the manufacture of this type, shunting operations were carried out using veteran steam locomotives such as the B6 , 9600 , and 8620 types.

From 1958 to 1967, a total of 416 locomotives were manufactured by Kisha Seiko , Nippon Sharyo , Shin Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries , Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and Hitachi. Consisting of 264 basic-series locomotives, 83 300-series locomotives , 18 500-series locomotives, and 51 600-series locomotives. However all 416 locomotives never existed at the same time. From locomotive No. 111, manufactured in 1961, a major specification change was made, with a completely redesigned exterior and engine.

On lines such as the Suigun Line , Shimizu Port Line , Fukuchiyama Line (Amagasaki Port Branch Line) , Wadamisaki Line , and Tadami Line (summer only), there were instances of passenger trains being towed by these locomotives.

Some remain in preservation, while some still operate on private railways under different sub classes.

The loco is in very good condition as you can see in the pictures, the loco is tested and runs with working lights, the overall condition is very good. The loco would benefit from a service and more running as the running is a bit stuttery and the lights flicker which usually means the the pickups need cleaning. It comes complete with its box. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition.

Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout.

Do please have a look at our other listings, we typically have various HO and OO locos on offer as well as an extensive range of imported N gauge locos and other items.

Note: We do recommend all locos are cleaned & serviced, as they have some age to them even if the quality looks at the highest level (fairly standard advice for all locos!).
