Antique Wooden Egg Cup Thimble Case English * 1892 Sterling Silver Thimble This
smooth little egg cup is carved of wood and
holds an English silver thimble. It's tiny compared to others in this
style I've seen, often made of vegetable ivory. The bottom is stained
black and the wooden egg is painted an ivory color. Inside is a velvet covered
post for the thimble. The condition is excellent and the top fits on
securely.
It measures 1 7/8" tall and has a nice patina. The thimble has the English sterling silver hallmarks for Chester 1892 and the maker's mark for Henry Griffith & Sons. It has a faceted rim and an engraved band. The condition is excellent, mint really, crisp and in round with no damage at all. It's about an American size 5-6 (13.8 mm diameter opening).
