Up for sale is a fantastic pair of antique, bell-shaped cast-iron hanging beam scale weights (often called "scale peas"). These rugged pieces were historically used on steelyard and platform scales for weighing bulk commodities like cotton and tobacco in agricultural and mercantile settings. The large weight is unstamped and weighs 8 lbs 0.6 oz on a digital scale. The small weight is stamped with a clear "2" on the body. It has a beautiful, honest wear patina and weighs 1 lb 14.6 oz (typical minor weight reduction due to historic use and age). These are made of heavy cast-iron with wrought iron hooks and are in authentic primitive/rustic condition with beautiful surface rust, pitting, and patina. There are no structural cracks and the hooks are securely attached.
