The C&O Railway operated from the 1860s until its merger into the Chessie System in 1982, later becoming part of CSX in 1999. The “Hi-Cube” designation refers to the boxcar’s increased height, allowing more cargo volume compared to standard boxcars. The 50-foot length was a common size for freight service, and ribbed sides were a design feature for durability and ease of maintenance. In HO scale, the 481651 kit is part of a nostalgic line of Chessie System boxcars, reflecting the C&O’s legacy in the U.S. rail network.
