Crime drama directed by Elia Kazan that follows Terry Malloy, a former prizefighter turned dockworker in Hoboken, New Jersey, who inadvertently participates in the murder of his friend Joey Doyle after being coerced by his brother Charley and the corrupt union boss Johnny Friendly.
Terry's moral awakening begins when he falls in love with Joey's sister, Edie, and meets Father Barry, a priest urging the longshoremen to break their code of silence; this leads Terry to confess his role in the deaths of Joey and another worker, Timothy "Kayo" Dugan, to both Edie and the priest.
On The Waterfront has a run time of approximately 108 minutes and is not rated.
