Supplementing but not displacing the service from Kalamazoo to Detroit, a new direct route from Cleveland to Detroit via Toledo was placed in operation on April 1-2, 1929.
Due to poor weather conditions, Cleveland and Toledo flights did not take place on April 1 as scheduled, but occurred on April 2, the Postmasters holding the mail for the first actual dispatch.
No cachet was provided for the inaugural mail from Detroit.
This cover was carried on the inaugural Contract Air Mail Route 27 flight from Detroit, Michigan to Cleveland, Ohio and is listed in the Contract Air Mail Flights (CAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as 27SE24.
During 1931 the airline changed its name to Transamerican Airlines Corporation. The airline was later purchased by American Airlines.
