A fine Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White transfer printed pottery bowl plate printed in the  “Rome” Pattern, first introduced by Spode in 1809, and otherwise generally referred to by the alternative title of “Tiber”. The view shows the River Tiber, the Castle and Bridge of Saint Angelo and the Dome of St. Peter’s and is based on two aquatints by J. Merigot and R. Edwards published in “Views and Ruins in Rome and it’s Vicinity” in 1798. The engravings for this design being widely regarded as among Spode’s finest.

The condition of this bowl plate is in an excellent undamaged post manufacture condition, with only minor irregular application of the transfer print to the very edge of the ceramic body. A tiny manufacture flaw at the edge top of the design. Any irregularities shown in the photos are underneath the final glaze finish. Impressed Spode backstamp.
