This box was designed in Fedoskino, a village near Moscow, in the 1980s. Fedoskino is the oldest and best‑known center of Russian lacquer art, where craftsmen paint on papier‑mâché boxes using oil paints rather than tempera. The box features a brightly colored bird surrounded by flowers which matches a known Russian lacquer miniature motif commonly called “Bird and Flowers.”
