1950 Bowman #16 Roy Sievers VG ROOKIE St. Louis Browns Outfielder. Sievers was born November 18, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri. He made his Major League debut in his hometown on April 21, 1949 for the Browns. He was named the 1949 American League Rookie of the Year. After a struggling 1950 season, he only appeared in 31 games in 1951 before being demoted to the Minor Leagues. While in the Minors, he suffered a right shoulder injury. When he returned to the Browns, he was switched to 1st Base due to his limited ability to throw. Before the 1954 season, he was traded to the Washington Senators. He spent 6 seasons in the nation's Capitol. As a stellar hitter, he was named to 4 All Star teams. After the 1959 season, he was traded to the Chicago White Sox where he was named to the 1961 All Star team. The Sox traded him to the Philadelphia Phillies during the 1962 season. The Phillies sold his contract to the expansion Washington Senators in 1964. He made his final "Big League" playing on May 9, 1965 with them. This card fits into a mid-grade set.
