A historically significant 1780 copperplate engraved map by Rigobert Bonne (1727–1794), French Royal Hydrographer, titled "Carte de la Louisiane et de la Floride" — published in Raynal's Atlas de toutes les parties connues du globe terrestre, Geneva, 1780, plate Liv. XVI No. 46.

This map captures the American Southeast at the precise moment of the American Revolutionary War. At the time of publication, Florida was still part of the Spanish Empire, while Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia were actively fighting for independence from England. The map depicts territory corresponding to modern-day Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Louisiana, with extensive detail of the interior including numerous Native American tribes and villages — the Cherokee, the Chickasaws (Chicachas), the Choctaw (Tchatas), the Creek (Coussas), the Apalachicola, and many others — reflecting the still tenuously explored interior of the continent.

Coastal settlements are clearly labeled: Nouvelle Orléans, Biloxi, Pensacola, St. Augustine, Savannah, and Charles Town. An inset in the upper left focuses on the upper Missouri River and the Osage territory — one of the first maps to depict the region near present-day Kansas City — reflecting period interest in the Missouri as a possible water route to the Pacific.

Rigobert Bonne was an influential French cartographer of the late 18th century who came to Paris to study and practice cartography, and his work is highly regarded for its detail, historical importance, and overall aesthetic appeal.

The map is hand-colored in the period manner, distinguishing the colonies and territories in soft greens, pinks, and yellows. Period folds are visible as expected for a map of this kind originally issued in atlas/book form.
