SIZE: This stuffed plush dog appears to measure as follows: 10.5” in height (top to bottom); 9” in length (length measured front of head to tail)
DESCRIPTION: This is an amazing vintage stuffed plush dog by Merrythought, England. I believe this particular dog is intended to be a Cairn Terrier. He has shaggy or wiry black and gray plush fur, plastic eyes, and a molded plastic nose. He also has a tartan plaid ribbon around his neck. Research indicates this is a nod to the Cairn Terrier’s Scottish origins. His paw pads appear to be a lightweight felt or low-pile velveteen material. As noted above, he also has the benefit of his stitched paw tag, white body tag, and attached hang-tag at chest level. I will openly note that I initially thought the fur was mohair; however, I now believe it is plush due to the age. As I believe these vintage plush stuffed dogs are becoming quite rare, he would be a great addition to any Merrythought collection.
MARKINGS: This piece has the benefit of his stitched paw tag, white body tag, and attached hangtag at chest level.
CONDITION: FAIR PLUS ~ I am considering the age and use when factoring the condition rating. Doggy appears to be doing fairly well for a stuffed animal, being vintage, and being a child’s toy. There is some very minor wear seen -- but most appears to be from general storage (i.e. - some dust, etc.). The wire or “shaggy” fur still appears to be doing very well — but is quite wild. I suspect some of this is to be expected, though. The eyes and paws are doing well with no major issues to note. Although superficial, I will note that the hang tag in the dog’s chest does show some wear. I don’t personally feel this is a major issue — especially considering how unusual it is to find one with it to begin with. I did want to note it, though. I do not see any major areas of soiling or any stains and his fur appears to still be about 99% fully intact. He could probably use a very gentle cleaning but I will leave any cleaning to the new owner.
AGE/YEAR MADE: In researching these dogs by Merrythought, I did go down a bit of a rabbit hole. I initially believe he was from the 1990s; however, I now truly believe he is rooted right in the middle of the 1970s (c1974-1978). This includes all available evidence — including his tags, and the name of the store on the price tag ("Bob's Toyland" was a beloved Sacramento, CA staple from right after WWII to about 1978). I’ve also personally had him for at least 15 years now. As such, I do feel he is vintage and is doing well with all things considered.
Please note: This June marks my 23rd year as an active seller on eBay. I’ve always asked my buyers to contact me if there are any issues with an order. Please reach out if you’re unhappy! I truly will do everything I can to make it right! I’d much prefer an honest conversation via messenger versus a negative strike on my profile that will last the next year. Thank you in advance!

** IMPORTANT INFORMATION: PLEASE READ! **
~ GENERAL ~
*** I do my very best to accurately describe the items I sell her on eBay; listing their imperfections as much as their attributes. I always note flaws so there are no surprises when an item is received. The items I offer are nearly always used, though, and therefore are not in, "mint" condition. In fact, I never use the word mint to describe an item. With that said, please do not misunderstand my sometimes low opening bids. They almost never truly reflect the actual value of any item. In fact, they are priced in such a way because I like to keep with the fun and excitement of an actual auction.
~ PAYMENT & SHIPPING ~
*** I kindly ask that payment for purchase(s) be made within 5 days of the close of the auction. Occasionally, I will offer a "Buy It Now" option: in those cases, payment is due as soon as the "Purchase Now" button is chosen. An automatic NPB (Non-Paying Bidder) notification will be sent after the 5th day if payment is not received. Paypal is currently the only form of payment I accept. I am more than happy to combine shipping on items, please just contact me prior to the auction's end. I can then send a combined invoice which will save you some money and me some time! :) Where shipping is concerned, I do my very best to ship items within 1-2 business day after payment is received.
~ PURCHASES & RETURNS ~
*** I strive to make your buying experience with me as excellent as I can. With that said, please contact me if you are unhappy! I will do everything possible to correct the problem. On nearly all of my items, if you are dissatisfied with your purchase, you are welcome to return it for a full refund within two weeks (14 days) from the day it was received. Return shipping will be paid by the buyer, though. In certain cases, I may sell an item for a close friend of family member that does not belong to me. Those are usually the only instances that I do not allow returns. I figure, if the item does not belong to me, I should allow that decision to be made by the person who does own it.
~ SORRY, I NO LONGER SHIP INTERNATIONALLY! ~
