Here is a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger Mark 1A that has been converted
into a race car. Powered by a Ford
Racing 302ci crate engine, it is a highly modified and capable car with many
upgrades. It includes a pallet of spare
parts and its old 260ci engine along with two log books, setup sheets, racing
notes, receipts, service records, a parts list, and more.
While this car has been extensively modified, its VIN
tag remains in place as shown in the gallery.
Per the tag this is a code 92 Arctic White roadster which has been
repainted and now wears black tiger stripes along with several body
modifications. The initial racing
conversion was performed circa 2008 followed by additional modifications in
2016-17. Equipment includes a full roll
cage and a fire suppression system. A
hard top is also present along with two sets of 15” wheels.
The present engine is a 302 from Ford Racing (part M-6007-X302B). It uses a 4-bolt main Boss 302 block and is rated
at 345hp out of the crate. It was
installed in 2017 just before the car’s last full race season and only has 16 hours
of use since new (records included). It is
equipped with aluminum GT40 heads and has 9.0:1 compression so it does not
require expensive racing fuel. Other
features include a large capacity Milodon pan along with a remote oil filter
and oil cooler. There is also an MSD
ignition and an oversized aluminum radiator.
The dual exhaust uses headers and small Magnaflow mufflers.
A hydraulic clutch feeds the 4-speed Toploader transmission
with an ID tag showing HEH-E (1964-67 Sunbeam Tiger). The Dana 44 rear end was rebuilt in 2018 and
houses a Powerlock limited slip differential with 2.88 gears and Mark Williams
30-spline axle shafts. Suspension
upgrades include reinforced control arms, Super Pro bushings, QA1 adjustable
shocks, and MG steering components. The
brake system has dual Tilton master cylinders with an adjustable balance
bar. You will also find modified Wilwood
calipers / rotors with 6-piston 12.19 x 1.25” fronts and 4-piston 12.19 x 0.81”
rears.
The interior has been stripped down to just the racing
necessities. On the driver side you will
find a padded Ultra Shield racing seat, Schroth 6-point harness (expired), and
a Tilton suspended pedal assembly. The
passenger side has the three master cylinder reservoirs on the dash and the MSD
box near the footwell. The entire floor
is covered with Eastwood insulation. All
the critical racing gauges are present along with a speedometer that is not
connected. There is also a switch / fuse
panel at the center along with a brake bias knob. A radio call button is on the steering
wheel. The trunk houses an ATL 15-gallon
fuel cell, AGM battery, and a five-nozzle fire suppression system bottle.
To be sure, this Tiger is a race car. That means it is not street legal and does
not have a title (though we can obtain one if interested). You will also find the usual battle scars that
accompany racing. Note the car has not
been raced since 2018 and will need to be fully prep’d before its next track
session. Along with many spare parts and
the 260ci engine, it also comes with SVRA and HSR logbooks, a parts list, a
full service / setup / racing log from 2016-18, and a USB drive with many
related files and receipts. All at a
very competitive price in the vintage racing market.
