Friedrich Oskar Ruge (24 December 1894 – 3 July 1985) was an officer in the German Navy and recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross of Nazi Germany. Vice Admiral Friedrich Ruge, German Federal Navy, served in cruisers, battleships, and destroyers. He was Captain in Command of Minesweeping Flotillas from 1936–41, and was in command of Western Defenses—including minesweeping, escorts, patrol—from 1941–43. A naval adviser on Rommel’s staff until the Normandy invasion, he served as Chief of Naval Construction from that time until the end of the war.
