A Strickland River Adze. Samo, Bedamini and Gebusi peoples, Western Province, Papua New Guinea.

Adzes and axes of this region are characterized by the means of the insertion of the stone blade, which is set between a split upper and lower shaft and tightly bound. These are quite rare.

The Axe measures 22 x 13 inches. Acquired in Papua New Guinea prior to 1980.
