Wolfgang Späte (8 September 1911 – 30 April 1997) was a German Luftwaffe fighter pilot during WWII. He was a recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. Spate is credited with 99 air victories. He was also the military officer in charge of the development of the Me-163 Komet, the world's first rocket fighter.
