Northern Cheyenne Artifacts
Recovered from the Davidson Family Ranch — Southwest of Busby, Montana
Provenance
The pictured Native American artifacts—arrowheads and spear points—were recovered from the
ranch of my grandparents, located southwest of Busby, Montana. For generations, the teepee
rings of this Northern Cheyenne campsite remained undisturbed on the high ground overlooking
the Rosebud country, and these artifacts were found in and adjacent to these teepee rings.
Cultural Context
These points reflect the material culture of Northern Cheyenne families who once camped here:
hunters, warriors, and travelers moving through the same ridges and coulees that later became
part of my family’s ranch. Their tools remained where they were last used or lost, protected by
the untouched soil of the campsite.
Enduring Legacy
Today, these arrowheads and spearheads stand as tangible links between the present and the
people who lived on this land long before us—evidence of a Northern Cheyenne presence that
endured in the landscape even as the world around it changed.
