The original attached press caption identifies Fyodorov as a magnetologist of the expedition and states that he is shown taking meteorological observations “on the very top of the world.” The caption further notes that Fyodorov was one of four scientists who would remain at the Soviet base at the Pole for the next year.

The reverse bears an original International News Photo stamp and attached typed press caption dated July 5, 1937.
