On August 1, 1982 Delta Airlines added Oklahoma City to its system with nonstop DC-9-32 flights from its Atlanta hub as well as extending one of its Atlanta to Tulsa flights to the new point.

Covers exist with an August 1, 1982 Tulsa Airport Mail Facility postmark, but these covers were not flown on the Delta inaugural flight to Oklahoma City.
