Penwork Tea Chest
The Regency Penwork Tea Chest dates to the early nineteenth century during the short lived Regency period circa 1815.
Crafted from Sycamore, the Tea Chest is formed as a sarcophagus shaped chest raised upon four brass lion pad feet with twin brass loop carrying handles to the sides. The exterior is extensively decorated with Penwork featuring classical Etruscan style figures in mythological scenes with chariots and standing figures framed within continuous linear borders.
Opening the Tea Chest reveals two removable Tea Caddies decorated with further Penwork classical scenes surrounding the original cut glass mixing bowl to the centre. The interior arrangement allowed for the separate storage and blending of loose leaf tea during the Regency period when tea remained an expensive household commodity.
The Tea Chest comes complete with a fully working lock and key.
