Today I am offering this fabulous vintage CoCo Joe's ashtray made from Hawaiian lava rock.
This one features a bas-relief Hawaiian petroglyph pattern.
Some refer to this design as dancing Tikis.
The material is compressed and carved lava rock.
The tribal graphic depicts native figures, tiki huts, and animals.
These were originally made in Kaneohe, Hawaii in the 1960s and 70s.
It has a classic MCM aesthetic.
It's hard to see but it is etched on one side as follows:
Made in Hawaii with Lava 64 CoCo Joe Kaneohe.
Additionally, one end is etched with N⁰ 264.
(I believe these indicate that it was created in 1964).
There is also a remnant of a metallic CoCo Joe's sticker label on the underside.
It measures approximately as follows:
It has two cigarette notches on each end.
It's in super vintage pre-owned condition with no damage.
I didn't scrub it very hard because I kind of like the way the grooves have some old pale ash deposits.
I think it makes the design stand out more.
But I'm sure if you prefer you can take a stiff brush and scour it back to glossy black.
