Striking vintage Mid-Century Modern studio pottery vase, signed “Thelma 1966” on the base. This is an impressive sculptural piece with a tall split flame form and a richly textured turquoise / teal glaze.
The glaze has a wonderful organic look, with mottled teal, green, white, and mineral-like crystalline areas throughout. It has the appearance of lava glaze, crater glaze, drip glaze, marble, or natural stone. The surface has great depth and movement, making this a very eye-catching display piece from every angle.
The interior is also glazed. The vase is extremely well done and has the presence of a true studio pottery piece rather than a later reproduction or mass-produced decorative vase. The 1966 date places it firmly in the Mid-Century Modern period.
I was not able to confidently identify the artist beyond the signature “Thelma,” so it is being listed as an artist-signed studio pottery piece.
