1992 Volvo 940 TDiC. Automatic, 2.4 VW 6 cylinder fully mechanical turbo diesel engine, with inter-cooler.

I have owned this car since 2018, and used it sparingly, mainly for long distance runs, trips to Scotland, and towing a few times a year. I am selling it as I have changed job and now need to tow much more so have bought a 4X4.

The odometer has never worked in my ownership, so I have no idea what the mileage actually is, this is a very common fault on 940s of this age.

It has been parked up for a few months, so I have jet washed it off, before photographing it, it is very dusty where I live, so it is almost impossible to keep a car clean, that and the swallows....

There is slight evidence that there may be a head gasket fault, as there is a little oil scum in the header tank. It had a new head gasket a couple of years ago, and has done very little since, so this might be residual, I have no way to tell. It is not pressurizing the water system, and there is no sign of oil in the water.

Over the past few years it has had:

Reconditioned Turbocharger.

Reconditioned injection pump.

6 new Bosch injectors.

New injector lines.

New N/S/F wheel bearing.

Full stainless exhaust system, from the turbo back.

2 new track rods, including track rod ends and rack ends.

The front and rear plastic lamps have all been replaced with new ones, these were very hard to find, and came from a specialist in the Netherlands

New battery.

All 4 shocks were replaced with Bilstein OEM ones in 2019, along with replacing the rear springs.

There are a few faults, the ABS light has come on, while it has been parked up and the speedo has stopped working, so I assume the sensor in the back axle has given up, a new one is included with the car. This has caused the cruise control to stop working, as it has no signal from the speedometer, but it was working before it was parked up.

It does not always start on the key, so there is a start button, this seems to be a dodgy connection on the ignition switch.

The lower bush on the gear selector has disintegrated, so there is play in the lever, but one can still select all gears.

The rear wiper does not always park in the right place.

The air conditioning does not work.

The driver’s seat cloth has split on the seams, but both heated seats still work ok, the rest of the interior is a bit grubby.

The electric aerial has a broken mast, and has been replaced with a standard one, but the motor assembly is still fitted in the back.

The original radio is fitted, but does not work, as I do not have the code, I had a modern radio fitted, so there is wiring to accept one, including a DAB areal on the windscreen and hands free microphone on the dashboard.

There are a few spares, several used injectors (which would go again, if rebuilt) an instrument cluster, with no speedometer.

The headlamp wipers played up, so one motor is removed, one is fitted. There is a box of headlamp wiper parts, should anyone want to reinstate them.

There are several keys, but no key to the driver’s door, but the remote central locking, and immobilizer work, there are 2 fobs, only one works.

The rear of the sills are a little scabby, but there is very little rust, as can be seen from the MOT history, it has never failed an MOT in my ownership.

The current MOT runs out on 5/8/2026, and as it is on a SORN and un-insured, I will not be taking it for another test.

There is a lot of service history from Ray Chapman Volvo in York, form before I bought it, I have some receipts for parts I have fitted over the years.
