Awesome DOLPHIN RING

(Scroll all the way down for info on the Save Marine Mammals efforts)

This is a sweet 3 dimensional dolphin ring, bought during the Seventies by a member of the Cousteau Society (Founded in 1973 by Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, the Cousteau Society unites over 50,000 members worldwide who share a commitment to protecting our oceans-- exactly in 1974.

Held up to ring sizers, and with appx 15mm inner diameter, we estimate this to be appx. size 4.  It is fully open between its snout and tail, so your jeweler or silversmith can resize it easily.  We are not jewelers so we can only offer our nonprofessional assessment.

Marked Sterling and 74 inside, with a curved mark that could be a maker mark.

Expect typical evidence of age, use, wear, and storage: Possibly a dight of tarnish in the nooks and crannies, we leave patina as found for new owner.  Still quite shiny!

Ideal vintage gift for your marine mammal biologist, ocean conservationist, perfect for your mariner, oceanographer, marine biologist or cetologist or marine mammal zoologist!

The "Save the Dolphins" movement, begun shortly after the "Save the Whales" effort, aims to protect dolphins from threats like bycatch in tuna fisheries, captivity, and habitat loss. Key initiatives include the "Dolphin Safe label" on tuna, which has reduced deaths by over 90% and for ending captivity. Intense focus is placed on ending hunts, such as the Taiji dolphin drives in Japan, by raising global awareness.

The "Save the Whales" movement is a long-running global campaign that started in the early 1970s, driven by public awareness of devastating whaling practices. After the 1972 Marine Mammal Protection Act passed, advocates use whale songs and iconic imagery (like bumper stickers) to galvanize support, leading to major conservation wins like the 1986 global ban on commercial whaling.  The endeavor continues today against threats like ship strikes, pollution, and climate change, championed by groups like Greenpeace and the nonprofit group called Save the Whales.
