Very Fine Miriam Nampeyo HOPI Pottery Seed Pot Sikyatki Revival Eagle Tail Pattern, Hopi-Tewa, Vintage.
ARTIST: Miriam Tewaguna Nampeyo (b. 1956) is the great granddaughter of Nampeyo of Hano, and granddaughter of Fannie Nampeyo. Her work recreates the ancient Sikyatki style pottery in the tradition of her grandfather.
SYMBOLISM: This
stunning seed pot features the eagle tail design in four repetitions
wrapping around the pottery. The Hopi eagle pattern signifies the
power and wisdom of the sacred bird, which is considered a messenger and
transitional figure between the material and spiritual realm. The eagle
plays a dominant role in Hopi ceremonies, evoking the balance between
these two worlds and male and female energies.
