The book seems to have originally been in the library of Francisco Samuel Short who was married to Winnie Drinkwater, who was the first woman to get a flying license.

The bookplate belongs to Oswald Short who ran the famous factory at Windemere from 1941 to 1945.

The book covers the defence of London in the Great War dealing with how it was done and the politaical intrigue that went with it.
