1971 IS AN EXCEEDINGLY TOUGH YEAR FOR DEEP CAMEO KENNEDY HALVES. It was the first year of 100% cupro-nickel halves (68-70 were 40% silver). This alloy is much harder than silver and so is tougher on the dies. The cameo look on nickel alloys is also considerably softer than on silver so the frost has to be really intense to create that coveted deep cameo look! VERY FEW OF THESE WERE PRODUCED WITH A REVERSE THAT QUALIFIES FOR THE TAG DEEP CAMEO! THIS ONE MAKES THE CUT IN MY PROFESSIONAL OPINION!!
THE FIELDS ON BOTH SIDES ARE THOSE TRULY SUPERB DEEEEEEEP JET “BLACK HOLES” WHICH OCCUR ONLY ON THE VERY EARLIEST STRIKES OF FRESH DIES!! THE MINT FROST IS SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT!! There is absolutely no haze or toning on this splendid specimen.
