Offered for sale is an original Soviet-era desktop souvenir dedicated to Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky (1857–1935), the visionary scientist widely regarded as the father of modern astronautics and theoretical rocket science. His pioneering work laid the foundations for space exploration and greatly influenced the development of the Soviet space program.
This striking Space Age collectible features a molded yellow relief portrait of Tsiolkovsky set against a deep red translucent acrylic background within a clear plexiglass display block. The design is enhanced by an engraved rocket trajectory symbolizing humanity’s journey into space.
The plaque bears one of Tsiolkovsky’s most famous quotations:
“The impossible today will become possible tomorrow.”
(Original Russian: «Невозможное сегодня станет возможным завтра»)
The lower section is engraved with an image of the State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics in Kaluga, the world’s first museum dedicated to space exploration. Souvenirs of this type were commonly sold in Soviet museums and cultural institutions during the height of the USSR’s fascination with science, technology, and space travel.
