One of the most iconic vehicles ever created by Q Branch, the Lotus Esprit from The Spy Who Loved Me is capable of both land travel and underwater operation, transforming into a submarine in just seconds. Equipped with a range of gadgets including surface-to-air missiles, the highly versatile Lotus makes a spectacular return to land, leaving a beach full of onlookers amazed.

The submersible Lotus Esprit was brought to life on screen through a combination of miniature effects and a full-size working version built by marine engineers in Florida. Using a Lotus Esprit body shell supplied by the manufacturer, the engineers fitted four propeller units, ballast tanks, and battery-powered systems sealed in a watertight compartment. Filmed in the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas, the submarine was operated by a former Navy SEAL wearing full scuba gear.
