Imperial German Pre WWI 2nd Class 1870 Iron Cross Decoration.
Measures 1 3/4" wide by 1 3/4" tall. The front of the maltese cross shows King’s crown on the upper arm with a ‘W’ in the center. It is dated ‘1870’on the lower arm. The upper arm on the reverse side has a King’s crown with the letters ‘FW’ below. There is a three-leaf oak leaf branch in the center. It is dated 1813 on the lower arm. The round suspension ring is maker marked ‘WS’. Includes the presentation machine embroidered cloth woven cotton ribbon. Measures 1 3/16” wide by 7 5/8" long. Three-piece construction that has a die struck German silver frame with an iron magnetic center. Awarded during the 1870 – 1871 Franco Prussian War for gallantry in combat action.
