An original watercolour and photographs of the Mill Archway gates at Dunster Castle by their original blacksmith. The gates were designed in 1928 by blacksmith J.A.R (James Arthur Radford) Stevenson at the Devon Smithy, Whimple Devon. The set includes:
- An original watercolour by Mr Stevenson of the gates at Dunster Castle. It is painted on card with the address of the smithy on the back. It measures 26 cm (10 inches) by 20 cm (8 inches).
- A mounted photograph, taken at Devon Smithy of the gates with Mr Stevenson (second from left in the photograph) and other workers. Their names are written on the back of the mount: George Davey, J.A.R Stevenson, Ted Stott and Oscar Stone. The photographic studio of Heath & Bradnee Ltd of Exeter is embossed at the bottom right of the mount. The mount measures 30 cm (12 inches) by 25 cm (10 inches).
- Two other photographs of the gates, one being attached to tracing paper, with details of the width and height of the gates and their cost.
The mount of the large photograph has wear to the front and edges (shown in the pictures). There are age related marks on the front and back. The watercolour also has some wear to the edges and tips of corners. There are age related marks on the back also. The tracing paper attached to the photo of the gate has bends and some tears.
