A set of three large size ledgers containing the original 1930s blacksmith designs from James Arthur Radford Stevenson of the Devon Smithy, Whimple, Devon. There are a few photographs too, including one which shows Mr Stevenson. They may have been used to show prospective clients the type of work the Smithy was able to produce. Not all the illustrations are shown in the pictures. Also, not all the pages are filled, there are quite a few blank ones at the back of the ledgers. There are pages that appear to be missing, but this is where they have been bound into the binding of the ledgers. Please see further details below:

The ledgers have the following headings:

1) 'Weather-Vanes.' Containing 12 pages of illustrations which include two loose drawings of designs featuring horses.
2) 'Light'. Containing over 50 pages of illustrations.
3) 'Signs, Etc:' Containing 16 pages of illustrations and some photographs. The illustrations include signs for Barclays Bank, Alan Cobham Aviation Ltd, train platform signs, The White Horse Hotel, Bushey Public Library, Honiton/Exeter Signs, Sparsholt/Winchester Signs, Law Chambers and others.

The ledgers measure approximately 34 cm (13.5 inches) by 26 cm (10 inches).

The covers have some wear and age related marks. The pages also have age related marks and show signs of wear and use.
